Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry patrol boat, the Hiu Macan 01, intercepted eight boats for illegal fishing in the South China Sea in several different locations inside Indonesia's exclusive economic zone on Tuesday.
Pontianak supervision and maritime resources supervision head Erik Tambunan said Thursday that the authorities also detained 53 people, consisting of eight captains and 45 crew members.
"Those boats carry no legal fishing documents," Erik said as quoted by kompas.com.
The boats are identified by their numbers BD 97583 TS, BV 4985 TS, BV 4984, BV 92455 TS, BV 92458 TS, BV 5424 TS and BV 92421 TS.
The suspects were taken to the Pontianak station for questioning. (dmr)
