ambodian Senate President Hun Sen began a three-day official visit to Jakarta on Monday with a courtesy call on President Prabowo Subianto, during which they discussed strategic bilateral cooperation and regional stability as part of Hun Sen’s effort to expand Phnom Penh’s role in Southeast Asian peace dialogues.

Following the meeting, President Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s continued commitment to peace and reconciliation in the region, recalling Jakarta’s role in supporting Cambodia’s peace process in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Hun Sen, Cambodia’s longest-serving head of government with terms from 1985 to 1993 and 1998 to 2023, is leading a delegation of senior officials to Indonesia and Timor-Leste this week to demonstrate Phnom Penh’s commitment to regional stability, according to an official statement.

Arriving at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base on Monday morning, Hun Sen immediately headed to the State Palace for a meeting with Prabowo, who welcomed his delegation with 50 cavalry troops and a 19-gun salute.

Also present to welcome Hun Sen were Foreign Minister Sugiono, Home Minister Tito Karnavian, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Following the ceremonial welcome, the two officials held a closed-door meeting during which Jakarta and Phnom Penh reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing their roles within ASEAN to “advance inclusive and sustainable economic growth”, Prabowo wrote on his official X account.
