nline booking accommodation platform Agoda.com hopes to host more non-hotel accommodation options on its website in order to attract the growing millennial market, said Agoda’s country director Gede Gunawan during a media briefing event in Jakarta on May 17.

“We see that millennial customers [aged between 25 and 34 years] have completely different interests from other groups of people. In general, they prefer non-hotel accommodation options with unique themes,” he added.

According to the survey conducted by Agoda on 1,000 millennials, the reason for this difference is related to their keen desire for challenges and exploration without certain guidelines while traveling.

“About 77 percent of our respondents want challenges and about 52 percent say they intentionally get lost while travelling,” Gede said.

Currently, Agoda hosts about 19,500 accommodation options nationwide, about 10,000 of which are non-hotel accommodation options.

The company aims to host 22,000 accommodation options by the end of this year.

“I expect the non-hotel portion will be about 80 percent,” Gede said.

Agoda claims to be the biggest online accommodation platform in Indonesia.

Currently, the company hosts about 50,000 accommodation options in Southeast Asia and 1.3 million accommodation options worldwide. (ecn/bbn)
