OK OCE program might be included in revised city budget

akarta deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno’s signature entrepreneurship One Kecamatan One Center of Entrepreneurship (OK-OCE) mart program is likely to be included in the revised 2017 city budget.

City secretary Saefullah said funding for the program might be included in the revised budget, as the program did not require a big budget.

“I heard the OK OCE is not attached to high costs because it only invites the public to start their own businesses and then they cooperate with the banks,” he said on Monday.

Governor-elect Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga introduced the program on the campaign trail as a promise to create 200,000 entrepreneurs in the city.

“This year, the new governor will lead [Jakarta] for two-and-a-half months. There’s no way we won’t allocate funds [for their programs],” Saefullah said.

Sandiaga is set to expand the program next month by opening three more OK OCE marts.

The OK OCE mart is designed to be a place for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to sell their products.

There is only one OK OCE mart in the city, located on Jl. Cikajang in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. The mart is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.

OK OCE mart president director Lilies Noorlismanie said three more OK OCE marts would be set up in the capital next month.

“There will be one mart each in Marunda, Pasar Rebo and Teluk Naga,” Lilies recently said.

Unlike conventional minimarkets, which are usually located in shop-houses, an OK OCE mart sets up its business from a modified container.

In the beginning of June, Lilies said the containers for the new OK OCE marts would be sent to three locations, with the new marts scheduled to be opened in the middle of next month.

Launched in April, the OK OCE mart in Cikajang has been able to achieve a turnover of Rp 3 million (US$225.5) per day. However, establishing one OK OCE mart requires Rp 200 million in capital, which will be used to modify the container, purchase shelves, computer, air conditioner and products sold at the minimart.

The owner of the Cikajang mart is a joint venture of 30 people under Alex Asmasoebrata, an Anies-Sandiaga volunteer who is also the chairman of the Jakarta branch of the Indonesian Equestrian and Horse Racing Association.

According to Lilies, 30 percent of products sold at the OK OCE mart are SME products, while the remaining 70 percent are daily needs products, including sugar, cooking oil, cigarettes and soap.

While OK OCE marts aim to promote SME products, most people go to the mart to buy cigarettes, with cigarettes being the best-selling product, followed by cold drinks and SME products, such as chips, homemade yogurt and cheese.

“Currently, there are around 20 SMEs that have marketed their products through the Cikajang mart,” she said.

During the Cikajang mart opening, Sandiaga said he planned to establish 44 OK OCE marts in each subdistrict. Prices of products sold at the mart are claimed to be lower than those at other modern markets.

Cikajang mart customer Rachmi Fardila, 26, said it was her first time shopping at the mart.

“I wondered about what they sold here and I think the minimart is good enough. I hope they can sell more homemade snacks because it is not easy to find such snacks at other markets,” Rachmi said.
