T

he applause has faded in Jakarta, yet the 53rd International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Artistic Gymnastics Championships left behind a clear signal that the sport is evolving as veterans and newcomers set their sights on the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California.

The world’s best gymnasts converged in the capital for a competition that blended star power with fresh promise. Champions from the Tokyo and Paris Olympics shared the floor with rising talents, while China, Japan and the United States renewed their contest for global supremacy. The results told the story: hard-fought, balanced and precise.

This year’s world championship saw even victories across events as most gymnasts took home at least one medal, while a handful stood out with exceptional scores.

At this level, gymnasts usually need to reach scores in the mid-14s to claim a podium finish. The very best can break into the 15s: a mark that was rarely achieved at Jakarta 2025.

The weeklong event that ended on Saturday was more than just another stop on the world gymnastics calendar. It also marked the beginning of a new cycle toward Los Angeles 2028 and the sport’s next defining chapter.

Veterans reclaim glory

If one theme defined the women’s events, it was endurance.
