oliday travelers in Wonogiri, Central Java, may find it difficult to have safe and comfortable trips to their hometowns for the upcoming Idul Fitri holiday as less than half of total buses operating in the regency are roadworthy.
Wonogiri Transportation Agency head Ismiyanto said only 200 out of total 759 buses operating in Wonogiri had received ramp-checked stickers, which indicated their roadworthiness for this year’s Idul Fitri holiday season.
“Meanwhile, 559 others are not allowed to operate,” said Ismiyanto on Tuesday.
The tests were conducted following instructions from the Transportation Ministry, which required all modes of transportation earmarked for the exodus to get ramp checks.
A vehicle is considered roadworthy if it has a complete set of administrative documents and fulfills technical needs, including having proper lights, tires and well-functioning brakes. Other items under inspection include the speedometer, front windows, wipers and seatbelts.
