he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized antiques allegedly given as gratuities to the Transportation Ministry’s sea transportation director general, Antonius Tonny Budiono, who has been named a suspect in a corruption case.
The seized items were five kris, a javelin, five watches and more than 20 gold rings, said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah.
"The items were seized because they were allegedly given as gratuities. We will further examine them," Febri said in a statement on Saturday.
Antonius was arrested by KPK officials at his office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday. The KPK confiscated cash inside 33 bags totaling Rp 18 billion (US$1.34 million).
"This case should serve as a lesson for state officials and civil servants," Febri said.
Antonius' predecessor, Bobby R. Mamahit, was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a Rp 40 billion graft case pertaining to the construction of a training facility in Sorong regency, West Papua, in 2011. (yon/wit)
