The presidential candidate's camp dismisses the allegations as politically motivated amid Ganjar's push for a House of Representatives inquiry against alleged irregularities and fraud on the 2024 general election.
A complaint filed with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has accused presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo of corruption during his tenure as Central Java governor, a claim that Ganjar’s camp has dismissed as politically motivated.
The complaint, filed by Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) chair Sugeng Teguh Santoso, contends that Ganjar and former Bank Jateng president director Supriyatno participated in the embezzlement of more than Rp 100 billion (US$6.4 million) through a scheme involving Bank Jateng and some of its insurers from 2014 to 2023, while Ganjar was governor of Central Java.
Sugeng’s complaint alleges that the kickbacks were given by insurers of the bank’s consumer loans and that 16 percent of the insurance premiums were illicitly returned to Bank Jateng.
That 16 percent was allegedly divided among three parties, with 5 percentage points going to Bank Jateng for operational costs, 5.5 percentage points to the bank’s shareholders and the remaining 5.5 percentage points to Ganjar, who was identified in the complaint only by his initials GP.
The KPK confirmed that it had received Sugeng’s complaint and said investigators would collect more information and coordinate with the complainant.
“We’ll know after the verification whether it can be followed up with an investigation or not,” KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
