F

ormer Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who was jailed for blasphemy earlier this year, has sent a public Christmas and New Year's greeting in a letter he wrote from his detention cell at the National Police's Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters (Mako Brimob) in Depok, West Java.

His legal team posted the holiday greeting on Thursday on Ahok's official Instagram account (@basukibtp).

Ahok, who is spending his first Christmas behind bars, said that he hoped God would bless the people celebrating the holiday with good health, joy and peace of mind.

“People ought to love selflessly because that is who we are. Humans are made in the image of a selfless God; loving each other is what makes us truly human. Happy New Year 2018.” Ahok wrote.

His younger sister and lawyer, Fifi Lety Indra, said she visited her brother on Sunday.

"Ahok will celebrate Christmas Day with his wife and children at Mako Brimob," Fifi said on Monday.

It has been reported that Ahok will receive a remission on Christmas Day, as he has served a quarter of his prison term and displayed good behavior. (ahw)
