A man was shot dead after he caught someone stealing his motorcycle in Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.

East Jakarta Police head of public relations Comr. Wasiem confirmed Wednesday that the incident occurred. “We have deployed a team to hunt down the fugitive,” he added.

Wasiem alleged that the victim, 21-year-old Ansyar Ridwan, and local residents caught the suspect stealing Ansyar's motorcycle in community unit 005 on Jl. Pembina just after midnight.

The suspect then allegedly shot the victim, who died on the spot.

The robbery-homicide occurred two days after a worker was robbed of Rp 200 million (US$14,000) while on the way to a bank in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Monday. (jlm)
