T

he Transportation Ministry has said it is preparing 60 buses to be operated from Bekasi to Jakarta ahead of the enforcement of the odd-even license plate policy along the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road starting on March 12.

Head of the Transportation Ministry’s Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) Bambang Prihartono said in Jakarta on Thursday that the buses would serve motorists who usually drove their cars via the West Bekasi and East Bekasi toll gates to their workplaces in Jakarta.

“So, this (bus deployment) will change the mindsets of people so they will want to shift to mass public transportation. The buses will depart from Mega Mall Bekasi,” Bambang said as reported by kompas.com, adding that a single trip bus fare was Rp 20,000 (US$1.4).

Meanwhile, state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga announced that the odd-even policy would be implemented from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday only for vehicles that entered the toll road via the West and East Bekasi toll gates.

BPTJ traffic and transportation director Karlo Manik said the agency would also provide motorists with four parking lots at Mega Mall Bekasi, the Mal Metropolitan Bekasi, the Bekasi Cyber Park and the Patriot Bekasi Stadium.

“The parking tariff is a flat fee of Rp 10,000. Commuters are required to show their Transjabodetabek tickets [to parking officers],” he said, adding that about 4,400 vehicles usually passed through the West and East Bekasi toll roads from 6 a.m. to 9.p.m., meaning that approximately 2,200 vehicles would be affected by the odd-even policy.
