he government has ensured that although construction of the trans-Java toll road is not yet fully complete, parts of the highway will be able to accommodate those traveling during this year's Idul Fitri exodus.

The trans-Java toll road connecting Merak in Banten and Banyuwangi in East Java will be about 1,167 kilometers long once complete. Around 760 km of the toll road would be open for use during the exodus, according to Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

Of the 760 km, 524 km is expected to be fully finished, with drivers expected to pay a toll to enter, while 235 km will be categorized as functional but not yet fully operable.

“The [functional] toll road can be passed [by cars] but it’s not perfect and it’s free. But don’t worry because there will be rest facilities along the road,” Basuki said during a national meeting of the Indonesian Architects Association in Malang, East Java, on Thursday.

Basuki said trans-Java would be completed in 2019. (dwa)
