Approximately 150 experts from 24 different countries will take part in monitoring the regional elections in East Java.

East Java Governor Soekarwo said the experts arrived in Surabaya on Monday.

“They are here to see how regional elections in East Java are conducted,” the governor said as quoted by tempo.co in Surabaya on Monday.

Soekarwo further said he believed that the simultaneous regional elections, which were set to be conducted in 18 regencies and cities across East Java on Wednesday, would run smoothly because voters were receptive to the process.

Although East Java is a heterogeneous province, its residents are very mature when it comes to political issues, he said.

“This is why the central government is hoping that the regional elections in East Java serve as an example to the nation,” Soekarwo said. (dpk/ebf)
