ormer president and Democratic Party patron Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his family cast their votes for the West Java gubernatorial election at a polling station near his residence in Cikeas, West Java, on Wednesday.
Yudhoyono and his wife Ani Yudhoyono, accompanied by their youngest son Edhie Baskhoro Yudhoyono and his wife Alya Rajasa, submitted their ballots at the 06 Nagrak polling station in Gunung Putri, Bogor.
The Yudhoyono family joined other Cikeas residents and waited for their turn to cast their ballots to choose the next regional leaders. They were among 315 eligible voters registered at the polling station.
Speaking after casting his ballot, Yudhoyono said that he and his family had consistently used their voting rights in every regional, legislative and presidential election.
“I also want to encourage all people of Indonesia to exercise their voting rights and choose their [regional leaders] to ensure that the elected leaders are the ones who truly hold the mandates and trust from the people,” Yudhoyono said as reported by Kompas TV.
Yudhoyono added that he hoped the simultaneous regional elections in 171 regions on Wednesday would run safely and uphold democratic values.
In West Java, the Democratic Party allied with Golkar in backing the pair of incumbent West Java Deputy Governor Deddy Mizwar and Purwakarta Regent Dedi Mulyadi. (afr/dmr)
