The award-winning comedian, actor and TV presenter swept the DPD election with over 5.3 million votes to clinch the West Java seat against more prominent politicians, seemingly indicating a shift in voter preferences.
lfiansyah Bustami Komeng, an award-winning comedian who is also an actor and television presenter, can now add two other notches to his varied career: one for winning the West Java seat at the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and the other for garnering the most votes among all candidates that vied for a total of 152 DPD seats.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) registered a total of 668 eligible candidates from 38 provinces for the DPD race, according to Kompas.com.
Ahmad Nur Hidayat, head of data and information at the West Java KPU, confirmed on March 18 that Komeng had won the province’s seat at the regional council.
"The [election] results have been validated and signed off by commissioners of the West Java KPU and the witnesses of individual DPD candidates," Ahmad said last Monday, as quoted by state-owned news agency Antara.
Komeng garnered a whopping 5,399,699 votes to win the province’s seat at the regional council, surpassing all other DPD candidates.
The three other West Java representatives are Aanya Rina Casmayanti, who won 1,976,561 votes, followed by Jihan Fahira with 1,823,907 and Agita Nurfianti with 1,168,837.
Voters in 27 cities and regencies cast their ballots in the DPD polls for West Java. Bogor regency contributed the most votes to Komeng's victory with a total of 678,352.
