ll bajaj (three-wheeled taxis) in Jakarta will be gradually modified into four-wheeled vehicles, says Jakarta Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda Jakarta) head Shafruhan Sinungan.
According to Shafruhan, the current regulation on public transportation did not acknowledge the existence of three-wheeled vehicles used for public transportation. Therefore, they were breaking the law, he added
“Organda and other transportation companies have to adjust to the regulation,” he said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com on Wednesday, referring to Law No. 22/2009 on traffic and land transportation.
He added that they did not want to break the law therefore the vehicles would be modified in accordance to the regulation.
Shafruhan cited the success of turning the bemo (a three-wheeled taxi with a bigger capacity than a bajaj) into four-wheeled vehicles in Manggarai, South Jakarta, and Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta.
The same plan had been proposed by Shafruhan in July 2016, when he said Organda would modify 1,000 to 2,000 bajaj that would be operational the following year. (gis)
