Longer travel time for train commuters in Greater Jakarta Commuter Lines train passes through the collation of the New Sudirman station project, in Duh Atas, Central Jakarta. The station is designed to serve passengers of five public transportation modes – bus rapid transit (BRT), Commuter Lines, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), light rail transit (LRT) and Airport Train. rains from Jakarta to Bogor and to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will depart from different platforms from Sunday onward because of the renovation of Manggarai Station in South Jakarta, which will slightly increase travel time.

Edy Kuswoyo, the spokesperson of state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), explained that the Bogor-Jakarta and Sudirman Baru-Soekarno-Hatta trains would now depart on platforms 8, 9 and 10, whereas they previously ran on platforms 6 and 7, while tracks 8, 9 and 10 were used for locomotives and the train depot.

“The operation will, unfortunately, increase travel times,” said Edy on Saturday, as reported by tribunnews.com.

Traveling from Jakarta to Bogor, for example, would take about 5 to 10 minutes longer than the previous 1 hour and 55 minutes, he said.

He added that the authorities would increase staff at Manggarai Station to guide commuters.

The renovation in question pertains to the installation of new railway tracks at Manggarai Station, the largest transit station in Greater Jakarta, to separate intercity trains from commuter trains so as to reduce congestion.

On behalf of KAI and the Transportation Ministry’s Railway Directorate, Edy apologized for any inconvenience and said he hopes commuters would understand the situation.
