Three trains will be procured from a Chinese manufacturer, but the ministry declined to disclose the price.
he government plans to procure three Chinese trains for an autonomous rail rapid transit (ART) system for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), the Transportation Ministry said on Tuesday. A cross between a train, a tram and a bus, ART is an intelligent public transport system that uses sensors and rubber wheels and can operate with or without a track.
The ministry’s railways director general Risal Wasal said that each train will contain three cars but refused to name the price that would be paid. Risal assured the reliability of these trainsets since it has been proven in China along and in other countries such as Malaysia.
“For the first phase of the autonomous rail, we are buying three train from China,” Risal was quoted as saying by Bisnis.
“So, the autonomous system is not [going to be newly implemented] here. Other countries have reaped benefits from it,” he said.
