tate-owned oil and gas holding company Pertamina is supplying the earthquake and tsunami-hit areas of Palu, Donggala and its surroundings with 11 million liters of fuel by using tank ships from Balikpapan in East Kalimantan.
Pertamina's vice president of corporate communication Adiatma Sardjito said the fuel was shipped gradually from Oct 3 to 5.
He said four ship would transport avtur, Solar-branded diesel fuel, Premium-branded gasoline and nonsubsidized Pertamax-branded gasoline.
“Pertamina is supplying the area with fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by using all transportation means – land, sea and air transportation,” Adiatma said in a press statement on Tuesday.
He said the fuel was not only distributed to gas stations, but also to other important points, including electricity plants, telecommunications infrastructure, bank offices, airports, seaports, the National Search and Rescue Body (Basarnas), the military, the police and public kitchens.
Days after the natural disasters, desperate survivors looted fuel from fuel trucks as well as fuel stations to meet their daily needs. They also looted a number of retail outlets in the area.
Adiatma assured that Pertamina would work all out to restore the energy supply to Palu, Donggala and its surroundings, which were affected by the disasters, killing more than 1,000 people and damaging houses and infrastructure. (bbn)
