‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ touches layers of emotions that make you sing along
I had it all planned out. Google Queen, learn more about who was in the band with Freddie Mercury, put as many of their songs on my playlist and listen to them at work starting two days before the screening date.
But none of this happened. I suddenly found myself sitting in the cinema minutes before Bohemian Rhapsody started, without a single new addition to what I have known about Queen: “We Will Rock You”, “We Are the Champions”, Mercury and how he died. I didn’t even know about his four extra teeth, and I thought that somewhere in the middle of the movie, he would have it fixed. I was that oblivious.
I’m glad my initial plan didn’t work out. There is no need to Google or study the songs beforehand. Getting to know Mercury, Brian, Rog and Deacy from this movie is much more fun than googling. Sorry, not sorry, Google.
Social good of social media
I love technology with a slightly alarming passion. However, if being actively present online has taught me anything, is that if I am going to enter the debate on whether social media and the internet has a negative or positive impact, the debate would never end.
In the world of instant DMs and “internet friendship” (yes, that is a thing), Instagram-scrolling at dinner parties as a replacement for conversation makes it difficult to see a good side to social media. Yet I truly believe there is a positive side to social media if it is used for good, and just like our own accounts, we have the power to control and choose what we see and not see, or in this case, what we follow or unfollow.
Indonesia largest market for budget travel in Southeast Asia: RedDoorz CEO
Thanks to its young population, well-performing economy and high demand for domestic travel, Indonesia offers the biggest opportunity among other Southeast Asian countries for affordable online hotel booking platform RedDoorz.
“[Indonesia] is our most exciting market; the largest in Southeast Asia. Three things are happening at the same time: the country is doing very well economically; there is a young population that loves to travel; and the government has a vision to promote domestic tourism and destinations,” shared RedDoorz founder and CEO Amit Saberwal during a recent interview with The Jakarta Post.
Ivan Lanin shares language advice for young generation
Back in May 2016, linguist Ivan Lanin conducted a poll on his Twitter account, asking netizens: Why do you make mistakes when speaking Indonesian? The three response options were: “Did not know the rule”, “was not careful enough” and “did not care”.
The results showed that 50 percent of 651 voters stated they “did not care”, meanwhile 31 percent admitted they “did not know the rule” and the rest were “not careful enough”.
Ivan said Indonesians’ carelessness in speaking their national language was rooted in their mindset.
