he Jakarta administration is set to revamp the National Monument (Monas) compound in Central Jakarta with Rp 150 billion (US$10.3 million) earmarked in the 2019 city budget
"The funds will be used to repair and maintain all the parks," Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency acting head Asiantoro said on Monday, as reported by kompas.com.
Aside from the parks, the diorama located inside the monument will also be renovated. The monument itself, the white surface of which has turned dull, will be revamped.
"The surface has turned dark. We cleaned it last year, but it only lasted for a while because of the exposure to rain and humidity, which caused damage to it," he said.
Earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said he hoped Monas could provide an audio-visual experience to visitors by adopting 3D technology to replace the existing diorama, which was made in the 1970s.
The construction of Monas began in 1961 and was opened to the public in 1975. (ars)
