The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) stated in its report in 2017 that the potential loss borne by the Jakarta administration over faults in bus procurement amounted to Rp 106.8 billion.
he Jakarta administration is studying options to press charges against bus suppliers that failed to provide buses for city-owned bus operator Transjakarta over down payments that were considered a "loss" for the city in the 2013 faulty bus case.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the administration was formulating ways to settle the case.
"It is being studied. The study is almost done. We will inform on it once finished," he told reporters recently.
After six bus companies failed to provide buses to the city in 2013, the graft-tainted project continued with the Jakarta Corruption Court declaring the former Jakarta Transportation Agency head, Udar Pristono, guilty in a graft case. He was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for accepting Rp 78 million (US$5,566) in bribes from the companies that were awarded the bus procurement contracts.
Later in May 2017, the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) issued an assessment report over the procurement process that stated the city could suffer a potential loss of Rp 106.8 billion, which was paid as a downpayment.
The BPK made two recommendations for the city administration concerning the case, namely to cancel the agreement between the city administration and bus providers and request the money back, or terminate the contract by filing a lawsuit, which also aimed to get the money back.
Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo said the agency had tried to collect at least 20 percent of the money paid since 2017 to the six companies that won the contracts.
