The food will be distributed to the poor and in the aftermath of a disaster, such as fires.
he Jakarta administration, in partnership with Rumah Zakat, announced it would process Idul Adha (Day of Sacrifice) qurban (sacrificial cattle) meat into corned beef for the poor and people displaced by house fires.
“We will distribute the canned food to people who have lost their homes in a fire,” Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
Jakarta Legal Bureau head Premi Lasari said the canned food will be produced by alms foundation Rumah Zakat. She added that the food would be distributed in the aftermath of a disaster, such as fires.
“We will receive packets of corned beef and rendang [slow-cooked meat in coconut milk and spices]. In the meantime, the food – which lasts six months – will be stored at the National Alms Agency [Baznas] and the Indonesian Civil Servants Corp [Korpri],” Premi said.
The administration previously collaborated with several other agencies and organizations to launch the Dapur Kurban program, where it will distribute around 5,000 boxes of food made from qurban meat to the city’s poor.
The food will be prepared by chefs from renowned hotels across the capital. (rfa)
