Indonesia’s supply chain encompasses various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, mining, retail and logistics. Following are some key points about the supply chain in Indonesia.
The first is distribution networks. Indonesia has an extensive distribution network to cater to its vast population spread across multiple islands. The network comprises various modes of transportation, including air, sea, rail and road. Major cities like Jakarta, Surabaya in East Java and Medan in North Sumatra serve as distribution hubs.
Second, we have agricultural products, such as palm oil, rubber, coffee, tea and spices. The agricultural supply chain involves farmers, wholesalers, processors and exporters. Local cooperatives and middlemen also play a significant role in aggregating and distributing agricultural products.
Third, the manufacturing and retail sector in Indonesia is diverse and includes industries like textiles, electronics, automotive, food processing and more. The growing retail sector includes both traditional markets and modern retail formats like supermarkets, department stores and e-commerce. The supply chain for retail involves product sourcing, inventory management, warehousing and distribution to retail outlets or customers.
The supply chain for manufacturing involves raw material sourcing, spare parts, component manufacturing, assembly and distribution. Major industrial zones are located in Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and East Java.
