Batam is set to host Nongsa Fun Run on Oct. 7 at the Palm Springs Golf.

In this unique running event, participants will be invited to run across golf courses.

“This [running event] is the first [of its kind] in the world; the majority of the participants are foreign tourists,” said Tourism Ministry's archipelago tourism marketing development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti.

The competition is divided into two categories. The first one is five-kilometer route with starting and finishing points at the Palm Springs Golf.

The other one is 10 km route with Palm Spring Resort and Batam View Beach Resort as the starting and finishing points, respectively.

By Oct. 5, around 550 people, mostly Singaporeans and Malaysians, have signed up for the competition.

Destination Nongsa chairman Anddy Fong said participants would be entertained by a performance from Jive Talkin band in the evening after the race.

Jive Talkin is said to be the number one band in Singapore with a huge fanbase.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said this event is expected to attract many foreign tourists to Batam. “Fun run is [a type of] sports tourism that has communities all across the world,” said Arief. (kes)
