ndonesian coal miners are facing an acute shortage of tires for heavy machinery and have warned that without quick action, production could be disrupted in the world’s largest coal exporter.
The industry expects tire stocks to run out in next two months, according to Indonesian Mining Services Association (Aspindo) executive director Bambang Tjahjono.
"If the condition is prolonged, I’m afraid it could hamper the production and supply of coal for either export or the state-owned electricity company [PLN]," said Bambang on Monday, as quoted by Antara.

Indonesia exported 360 million tonnes of coal in 2022, the most of any country, followed by Australia with 338 million tonnes and the United States with 76 million tonnes in the same year, according to Trade Map data.
In a number of previous years, Indonesia has been the second-largest exporter of the commodity, behind Australia.
Coal industry associations have united to voice concern over the tire shortage, including Aspindo, the Indonesia Coal Mining Association (APBI) and the Indonesian Heavy Equipment Association (Pertaabi).
