ulder and Scully will be searching for the truth once again starting next year when “X-Files” returns for an eleventh season.

The risks are higher this time around with the lives of 7 billion people at stake. The trailer also hinted at how this impending catastrophe ties up with Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder’s (David Duchovny) missing son, William.

“Civilization is in its final stages. I’m asking you to betray the human race,” said the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) to Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi).

According to The Guardian, X-Files creator Chris Carter revealed during a panel at the New York Comic Con that season eleven will delve deeper into the past of the enigmatic Cigarette Smoking Man.

By the end of the trailer, a man was shown taking a puff from his cigarette while an alien watched from the side.

Other scenes in the trailer showed Scully facing off with a creature with long claws and an alien being examined on an operating table.

With all the mystery and conspiracies surrounding the former FBI agents, perhaps Scully was right in saying, “The truth still lies in the X-Files.”
