“One day of shooting was only walking and [doing it] very quickly! Walk, walk, until my feet were bleeding.”
Iconic actress Christine Hakim was describing to The Jakarta Post the process of shooting HBO’s latest prestige series, The Last of Us. It premiered worldwide on January 15.
The Last of Us is based on the similarly titled best-selling 2013 video game that finds its characters trying to survive a zombie-infested world. Critics have praised the game for its taut gameplay and dramatic story arc. It is often heralded as one of the best video games ever released.
Christine hosted a private screening of the pilot episode at her East Jakarta residence on Monday night. She personally invited the Post and four other media representatives.
“It’s a very tense scene,” Christine said of the “walking” scene. Talking animatedly in front of a television screen paused on the episode’s opening credits, Christine recalled filming the scene set to appear in an upcoming episode.
“I couldn’t put on a Band-Aid because they wanted a close-up. I don’t know if that’s still in it or not. I just concentrated on the scene’s feeling and didn’t feel the pain at all. But when it’s ‘cut!’” Christine kicked off a slipper dramatically. “It was really painful!”
