JAKARTA: Designer Oscar Lawalata has designed uniforms for employees of the newly-renovated Hotel Indonesia, one of the oldest high-rise buildings in the city.
"A talented designer must have a lot of ideas when designing clothing, be it for work, a wedding or a cocktail party. I also design uniforms, because (the business) has bright prospects," he told okezone.com news portal on the sidelines of his fashion show at Kempinski Private Residence on Wednesday.
Oscar, who received an Alisyahbana Award in 2007, said he always tried to retain a local flavor in his designs by adding embroideries with batik motifs.
"My clothing range follows international trends ... but I also keep the archipelagic identity there. This is the way I show that I love Indonesia," he said.
Besides Hotel Indonesia, which has changed its name to Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Oscar has also designed employee uniforms for Hotel Mulia, the JW Marriott, the Le Meridien and Four Seasons hotels. JP
