The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named a Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) official Friday a suspect in the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry graft case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named a Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) official Friday a suspect in the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry graft case.
“We have officially declared Bagindo Quirinno a suspect in the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry’s corruption case today,” KPK chairman Antasari Azhar said.
He said Bagindo would be questioned Monday.
KPK deputy chairman Chandra M. Hamzah said Bagindo could be charged with bribery and extortion by abusing his authority.
The commission is also seeking to charge him with violating Article 5 (2) and 11 about gratuity.
“We will see the results of the investigation to decide which article is really appropriate to charge him under,” Hamzah said.
The case revolves around the purchase of equipment for 10 vocational training centers across Indonesia.
Bagindo allegedly received Rp 650 million (US$54,393) from project committee head Taswin Zein to draft an audit report.
Suppliers for the project cooperated with Taswin Zein to sign a document backdated in December 2004 to accelerate the disbursement of Rp 45 billion for the procurements, even though there had been no equipment purchased at that point.
Taswin, also a former treasurer of the ministry, was jailed for four years in December for aiding the manipulation of the contracts as well as gaining Rp 100 million from the misconduct.
The KPK also declared six other suspects — former secretary of manpower development and placement directorate general Bachrun Effendi, PT Mulindo Agung Trikarsa director Mulyono Subroto, CV Dareta director Erry Fuad, PT Panton Pauh Putra director Kanawi, PT Gita Vidya Hutama director Ines Wulandari Setyawati and PT Suryantara Purnawibawa director Vaylana Dharmawan.
The latest three are facing trial at the Corruption Court, while the others are waiting for their cases to be handed over to the court.
