he board of commissioners of the publicly listed PT Astra Internasional Tbk group of companies has approved a nomination by its board of directors to appoint one of its directors, Prijono Sugiarto, to temporarily act as president director as from Jan. 21, the company said in a media statement issued Monday.
Prijono will remain in the post until the shareholders meeting appoints a president director and/or vice president director.
The decision was taken after the company’s president director for the 2008-2011 period Michael D. Ruslim passed away suddenly on Jan. 20 after being treated at hospitals in Jakarta and Singapore, chief of corporate communications Arief Istanto said in the statement.
Prijono has been a director at PT Astra Internasional since May 2001 and is director in charge of a number of automotive brands such as BMW, Daihatsu, Isuzu, Nissan UD, Peugeot as well as PT Gaya Motor, PT Fuji Technica Indonesia and PT Inti Pantja Press Industri. He is also director in charge of Astra Honda Sales, motorcycle maker PT Astra Honda Motor and component maker PT Astra Otoparts Tbk.
He is also the president commisioner for heavy equipment maker PT United Tractors Tbk; PT Astra Otoparts Tbk; PT Astra Honda Motor and PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia.
Having joined the Astra group in 1990, Prijono is also the vice chairman of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).
Prijono gained an automotive engineering degree from the University of A. Sc. Konstanz in 1984 and a degree in business administration from the University of A. Sc. Bochum in 1986. He confirmed all the company’s operations and services as well as those of its 153 subsidiaries were running normally.
