AKARTA: Dozens of trash pickers came to the Central
Jakarta District Court on Monday to show their support for a friend, Chairul Saleh Nasution, who was tried for possessing 1.6 grams of marijuana.
Apna (45), trash picker, said she did not believe Chairul could afford marijuana considering the latter did not have a fixed income as a trash picker.
"We sometimes only receive Rp 20,000 *US$2.0* a day or no payment at all.
"How could he afford marijuana when sometimes he doesn't have money for food," Apna said as quoted by detik.com.
Chairul's lawyer, Raja Nasution, suspected his client of being incriminated by the police because Chairul said he never possessed the drug.
Raja also said that the police arrived at his client's residence in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, and found marijuana hidden in a chair.
His suspicion was validated when the police testified at a trial session on Feb. 8.
