AKARTA: Liverpool FC International Football Academy & Soccer School (LFCIFAss) and agribusiness company PT Agspec Indonesia have launched an innovative program to bring soccer to children hailing from farming communities in rural West Java.

The four month long competition and coaching clinic will kick-off later this month with participating teams from West Java’s regencies of Garut, Bandung, Subang, Kerawang, Indramayu and Brebes.

As well as providing coaching and community programs, the LFCIFAss coaches are also on a mission to find the best 8-10 year-old talents. The prize for the most oustanding player will include scholarship coaching invitations to the LFCIFAss regular programs in Jakarta.

“Liverpool FC has a great tradition of working with communities in projects that are specifically targeted and relevant. So much opportunity for kids is Jakarta-centric and we are pleased to take the next step in our mission to make the Liverpool Way available to kids throughout Indonesia,” LFCIFAss commissioner Chris Wren said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post.

“The passion for soccer is shared by both city and rural kids alike,” said Agspec director Roger Pinder. “Liverpool FC has one of the greatest traditions and histories in the world and to give rural kids this opportunity in communities where Agspecs conducts business is a great privilege.”
