akarta: The Democratic Party removed three of its lawmakers, Amrun Daulay, As’ad Syam and Djufri from their posts in the House of Representatives due to their involvement in graft cases. Their removal is set to be approved by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the party’s chief patron.
“The process at the General Elections Commission [KPU] is finished. What’s left to be done is to ask for the President’s approval,” said chairman of the Democratic Party faction Jafar Hafsah on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Jafar said that Amrun, who represented North Sumatra, would be replaced by Saidi Butarbutar. Djufri (West Sumatra) would be replaced by Dalini Abdullah Datuk Indokayo. As’ad (Jambi) would be replaced by Sofyan Ali.
Amrun was accused of corruption surrounding the procurement of sewing machines and cattle between 2004 and 2006 when he served as the Social Affairs Ministry’s director general of social aid and security.
Djufri was implicated in a land procurement graft case during his tenure as the mayor of Bukittinggi between 2004 and 2009 and As’ad was involved in a corruption case linked to a power plant procurement project in Muaro Jambi when he served as Muaro Jambi regent in 2004.
