Berau ready to host Derawan Festival

Berau regency is ready to host the Derawan Festival with People'€™s Welfare Coordinating Minister Agung Laksono promising his support.

'€œPeople'€™s Welfare Coordinating Minister Agung Laksono met Berau regent Makmur HAPK in Jakarta recently,'€ said Berau'€™s head of public relations and protocol, Mappasikra Mappaseleng, on Tuesday.

'€œThe infrastructure in the Derawan Islands and other tourism islands is ready. The Berau regent asks its stakeholders to support improving infrastructure, instead of building a new airport facility,'€ said Mappasikra, as quoted by Antara news agency.

Kalimarau airport will receive money from the state budget for runway repairs.

Through the People'€™s Welfare Coordinating Ministry, other ministries can provide support for tourism during the festival.

'€œHopefully, a mooring can be provided using Transportation Ministry budget,'€ said Mappasikra, adding that Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry may also support the Berau tourism and culture agency's activities.

Derawan Festival will commence in June and peak in September. (asw/ebf)
