Living and breathing Indonesian film, actor Putra Arifin Scheunemann, better known as Arifin Putra, relies on high performance gadgets '€” from tablets to laptops '€” to support his daily work.

The 26-year-old has featured in a host of movies, including Lost in Love (2008), Rumah Dara (Macabre, 2010), Batas (Border, 2011), Hati Merdeka (Free Heart, 2011) and Badai di Ujung Negeri (Storm at the Country'€™s Edge, 2011).

For 2014, Arifin is looking forward to the international premiere of his new film, The Raid 2, directed by Gareth Evans, at the Sundance Film Festival.

Arifin finds gadgets by Apple fulfill his needs, although he also uses a BlackBerry and a basic cell phone for backup.

iPad 2

Up until now, I have used my iPad 2 daily. I can say that I spend most of my time in a day with the pad. The iPad is perfect for work and leisure. In terms of work, for example, I can save showreels on the gadget, which will be easy to access anytime I need them. I also can do basic research, via YouTube or websites,.

For leisure, I mostly use the pad to browse news, because conventional newspapers no longer suit my lifestyle '€” they are too big. Digital newspapers are more efficient for me; I even subscribe to The Jakarta Post'€™s digital edition. If I get bored, then I play some games on the gadget.

I'€™m not a gadget junkie, so I only buy things that I need. For the tablet, for example, I haven'€™t upgraded it until now. I don'€™t have a special budget for gadget shopping.

MacBook Pro laptop

For daily work, I certainly choose a laptop because I don'€™t have a particular office building to work in. My choice goes to the MacBook Pro. It has a lot of RAM [random access memory] because I'€™m familiar with video editing and video uploading to YouTube. The laptop is also helpful for me in accessing files that need FlashPlayer, which isn'€™t supported by the iPad.

BlackBerry

I use an old BlackBerry, simply because it helps me with work. However, I'€™ve been disappointed with BlackBerry service nowadays. It'€™s no longer practical, and I'€™m planning to switch it with, perhaps, an iPhone.

As a backup, I also have an old-fashioned Nokia phone with a black-and-white screen. It feels great to have a backup phone active for some weeks after just one-time charging. What important is having yourself reachable by phone, right?

Peripherals

WiFi Hotspot mobile

Carrying a laptop on a daily basis, I certainly need an Internet connection. Most WiFi services in Indonesia, however, aren'€™t reliable. Hence, I equipped myself with a mobile WiFi Hotspot. So far, the tool has been quite dependable.

Organizer box

It is a 10-centimeter-by-15-centimeter box, which has been very useful in keeping all my gadget equipments organized.

The box has a transparent lid and compartments to place chargers, cables '€” anything related to gadgets.

Secret

Depending on Internet access when I don'€™t have a specific work place has made me realize where the best WiFi connections in public are. My friend and I often hold a fun race to seek the best place with a super-fast WiFi connection.

We'€™ve found a place, but I won'€™t disclose it, because I'€™m worried I will lose that comfy place to work.

The WiFi connection in that secret place allows me to upload a 500-megabyte video to YouTube in just five minutes.
