PetroChina to speed up gas supply to power plants

P

etroChina International Jabung Ltd., a local subsidiary of China'€™s petroleum giant PetroChina, is moving forward with its plan to supply gas to power plants in East Tanjung Jabung regency, Jambi.

Upstream oil and gas regulatory special task force (SKKMigas) spokesman Elan Biantoro said in a press statement in Jakarta on Thursday that PetroChina was committed to all of the responsibilities outlined in a joint decree (SKB) signed on Sept. 20, 2013.

According to the SKB, SKKMigas and PetroChina will supply 5 million cubic feet gas per day (mmscfd) to meet electrical needs in East Tanjung Jabung.

'€œCurrently, the gas supply plan is still in due diligence,'€ said Elan as quoted by Antara.

He acknowledged that the initial schedule of November 2013 had been delayed due to technical challenges, such as the preparation of documents.

According to Elan, PetroChina was still waiting for buyers to submit documents on changes to their companies'€™ names and corporation legal status.

Besides gas supply, in line with the SKB, PetroChina has completed its operation-supporting community programs (PKPO) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) for budget year 2012, totaling Rp 19 billion (US$1.59 million). The realized program report was presented to Deputy East Tanjung Jabung Regent Ambo Tang on Jan. 20 this year.

For the next step in 2014, PetroChina was asked by SKKMigas to complete CSR and PKPO 2013. (ebf)
