Dantesinema associate producer Fathya Feurazia revealed that a team of writers and researchers had been involved in extensive research on Bung Hatta -- as he was fondly called -- over the past year, to prepare for the movie.
'The team has studied up to 80 relevant books and they are currently in the Netherlands to complete our research. A number of respected historians such as Rusdi Husein, JJ Rizal, Taufik Abdullah, Anhar Gonggong and Asep Kambali, as well as Leiden University's Indonesian history expert Suryadi Sunuri have also been involved,' Fathya told The Jakarta Post during a discussion on Hatta in Jakarta on Sunday evening.
Fathya said the movie would focus on Hatta's life between 1927 and 1949.
'It will start from Hatta's life as a student in the Netherlands to where he was captured, completed his studies and initiated the Perhimpunan Indonesia student movement. The movie will also depict various historical events, including the first and second Operation Product, the Roem-Royen agreement, the Linggarjati agreement and the Dutch-Indonesian roundtable conference,' she said.
Fathya added that finding the right actor to play one of the most historical figures in Indonesia was among the biggest challenges faced by the team.
'We have yet to determine whether to cast an established actor or a new talent who bears a great resemblance to Bung Hatta. Aside from physical traits, the actor must also have proper Dutch pronunciation,' she said.
The shooting for the movie, which requires a budget totaling more than Rp 10 billion (US$823,859), is slated to take place in a number of cities in Indonesia and the Netherlands, including Jakarta, Bukittinggi (West Sumatra), Banda Neira (Maluku), Bangka (Bangka Belitung), Den Haag, Rotterdam and Leiden. 'We will start shooting in February,' she added.
