Habibie Award goes to scholars, playwright

he Science and Technology Human Resources Foundation (Yanbinbang SDM-IPTEK) on Thursday honored three academics and a playwright with the 2014 Habibie Award.

'€œThis award is for people who are very active in their professional field and make meaningful contributions to developing science and technology,'€ said foundation head Wardiman Djojonegoro in a speech in Jakarta on Thursday, as reported by Antara news agency.

A physics professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Ferry Iskandar, was presented with an award for his work in basic sciences.

The second awardee was an engineering lecturer at Gadjah Mada University, Ahmad Agus Setiawan, who won the award for his work in engineering sciences.

The third awardee, Salim Said, is a former Indonesian ambassador to the Czech Republic who lectures at the Indonesia Defense University. He won the award for his work in the field of political and social sciences.

The fourth awardee is a prominent playwright, author and founder of Teater Koma, Norbertus Riantiarno. He won the award for his work in the cultural field.

The Habibie Award is an annual event to commemorate the anniversary of the foundation of the Habibie Center on Nov. 10. Since 1999, the foundation has presented awards to 47 inspiring people.
