ice President Jusuf Kalla attended on Wednesday the funeral of former South Sulawesi governor for the 1978-1983 period, Brig. Gen. (ret.) Andi Oddang, at the Panaikang Heroes Cemetery in Makassar.
Oddang, who passed away on Tuesday aged 89, was buried with full military ceremony, including a gun salvo. Kalla acted as inspector of ceremony.
The funeral was also attended by a number of top officials, including South Sulawesi Governor Syahril Yasin Limpo, the South Sulawesi Police and Wirabuana Military Command chiefs, mayors and regents as well as members of the public.
Oddang passed away after undergoing intensive treatment at the Siloam International Hospital in Makassar for almost a month. He is survived by four children and seven grandchildren.
Oddang, born in Barru on July 17, 1926, was the third governor of South Sulawesi. During his tenure, he improved the agriculture sector and was successful in turning South Sulawesi into a rice-sufficient province in 1982. (***)
