Greater Jakarta: Bomb squad detonates suspicious package

T

he Jakarta Police'€™s Gegana bomb squad detonated a suspicious package sent by an unidentified person to Ciketing Asem village, Mustikajaya district, Bekasi, late on Saturday.

Bantargebang police precinct crime unit head First Insp. Ardiyan Yudo said the package was delivered by an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver to a businesswoman identified as Cece in the village.

'€œ[The ojek driver] said he was told to do so by a woman who declined to reveal her identity,'€ Yudo said on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co.

The package was received by Cece'€™s son, Anton Suryadi, 20, who was suspicious of the package as a cable had pierced a hole in its wrapping paper.

Anton immediately reported the package to the nearest police precinct in Mustikajaya.

The bomb squad arrived at midnight and decided to detonate the package.

Yudo said the bomb squad also took the contents of the package for further investigation.

Tribunnews.com reported that the package contained a cable, 20 centimeters of PVC pipe, a device believed to be a detonator, tiny steel pellets and white powder.
