he Jakarta Prosecutors’ Office (Kejati) is now considering the completeness of the case dossier of Jessica Kumala Wongso, a suspect in the murder of Wayan Mirna Salihin, after the Jakarta Police submitted the dossier on Friday.
"Within seven days, we will inform the police of whether or not we deem the case dossier complete, especially with respect to the formal and material requirements they need to fulfill," the office's spokesperson Waluyo told thejakartapost.com on Monday.
According to existing rules, if a case dossier is declared “P19”, or incomplete, prosecutors must return it to the police for completion no later than 14 days after they receive it.
Waluyo said the pretrial hearing request filed with the Central Jakarta District Court by Jessica’s lawyers would not influence the examination of her case dossier by the office’s prosecutors unless the court decided to annul the police’s decision to name Jessica a suspect.
The police and Jessica’s lawyers will square off at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday, following a pretrial motion filed by Jessica’s camp against her being named a suspect in the murder case.
Jessica’s lawyers consider that her arrest and naming as a suspect were not in line with Criminal Code Procedure (KUHAP).
The police have declared that they are ready to face Jessica’s pretrial motion.
"We're all ready. The head of our legal division is prepared to face the trial," Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Muhammad Iqbal said on Monday, adding that all legal action taken against Jessica had complied with the police’s standard operating procedures. (ebf)
