Toll road operator Jasa Marga has opened its electronic toll road fee payment to all state-owned banks through multibank e-toll, ending the previous exclusive agreement with Bank Mandiri.
Jasa Marga President Director Adityawarman said the company targeted to increase the electronic payment system operation to 507 toll road gates this year, or around 50 percent of the total existing gates in greater Jakarta. The integrated e-money system is part of an effort to attain the target.
Initially, the company plans to provide the service at the Jakarta Outer Ring Road, Ulujami-Pondok Aren section, Jakarta-Tangerang section, and Bogor Outer Ring Road (BORR).
"We face an obstacle to the implementation of the single e-money payment on the inner-city toll road because there are sections that are managed by private companies," he said in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
Jasa Marga claim that e-money transactions stood at 15.6 percent of the total transactions in December 2015. Currently, there are 399 electronic toll gates in operation, or 40 percent of the total existing toll gates.
"The main purpose is to provide the best service to the public. The toll road is a fast lane but in reality the users are clogged at the toll gate before entering," said State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Rini Soemarno. (ags)
