ight people were injured when an elevator plunged down the shaft at Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta on Sunday afternoon. The elevator fell from the third to the first floor.

“One woman suffered a broken leg while the seven other people suffered trauma and light wounds. All of the victims are being treated at the hospital,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Awi Setiyono said following the incident.

Awi said the police were still investigating the cause of the incident, but had not yet requested information from any witnesses because they were still investigating the scene of the accident. 

Based on information from the Jakarta Police, the incident  occurred around 12:30 p.m., but Fatmawati Hospital management did not inform police until 4:30 p.m.

After receiving the report, Cilandak Police officers came to the hospital, drawing a police line around the incident site before beginning their investigations. (ebf)
