Greater Jakarta: Commuter line rail cracked, trips disrupted

rail on the commuter line between Lenteng Agung and Tanjung Barat in South Jakarta became cracked on Thursday morning, disrupting train services to and from the capital and Bogor, West Java.

“#InfoLintas at 7:05 a.m. between Lenteng Agung and Tanjung Barat, there was a cracked rail. It is currently being repaired,” said city commuter train operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) on its official Twitter account @Commuterline as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday morning.

The broken rail caused many commuters traveling to and from Bogor and several areas in the capital, like Jakarta Kota in West Jakarta and Jatinegara in East Jakarta, to face delays of more than 40 minutes.

The crack also caused a buildup of passengers as it occurred during rush hour, when commuters were attempting to head to their workplaces.

Thursday’s disturbance is the sixth commuter line incident this year. Before it, in May, commuter line users were stranded in train stations because a train had derailed on its way from Sudirman Station in South Jakarta.
