ouse of Representatives Speaker Ade Komarudin has said that deliberations of the 2016 state budget revision would run smoothly and according to schedule.
"The deliberation of the 2016 state budget revision will surely need time, but I can assure you that we will not deviate from the schedule," Ade told journalists at the House complex, Jakarta, on Thursday.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on Tuesday predicted a shortfall of Rp 219 trillion (US$16.69 billion) in this year’s budget, therefore the government needed to cut Rp 133.8 trillion of spending – Rp 65 trillion taken from ministries and other central government institutions and Rp 68.8 trillion from the allocation for the regions.
The House and government will begin the draft state budget revision deliberations in August, shortly after the House begins a new sitting session.
Ade, a Golkar Party politician, said the House had to respond quickly due to the emergency fiscal situation or the people would suffer the negative impacts of the budget deficit.
In such a situation, the government could issue a regulation in lieu of law so that the budget revision could be immediately implemented, said Ade, adding that the government could seek agreement from the House later. (bbn)
