he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) has said that only one independent pair of candidates had submitted copies of their supporters' IDs cards to enable the pair to run in the 2017 gubernatorial election.
KPUD Jakarta chairman Sumarno said that since Wednesday, seven pairs of independent candidates had registered to participate in next year’s election, but only one pair had met the requirement to submit copies of voters' IDs as proof of support.
Sunday was the deadline for submitting proof.
“As of today, only Ichsanuddin Noorsy and running mate Achmad Daryoko have submitted copies of their supporters' IDs. We will count them starting today until Tuesday, after which we will conduct administrative verification,” Sumarno said on Sunday.
Ichsanuddin said he had submitted some 600,000 copies of ID cards he had collected since the beginning of November. The figure is higher than the minimum requirement of 532,000 set by the General Elections Commission (KPU).
“Thank God, we finally garnered support by approaching people directly,” Ichsanuddin told reporters.(vny/ebf)
