ozens of photos were exhibited at City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Saturday and Sunday to commemorate the anniversary of theater troupe Lenong Rumpi.
Lenong Rumpi (Gossiping Lenong), which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, had a popular televised Betawi comedy sketch show.
The exhibition, featuring stills of the show, was opened on Friday evening by acting Jakarta governor Sumarsono.
“With photos of Lenong Rumpi, I guess we can decorate City Hall. [...] We need to provide space for the Lenong Betawi exhibition,” he said, adding that the exhibition should run longer than two days.
Meanwhile, also in the opening ceremony, the exhibition committee’s head, Harry de Fretes, said it was hoped that the photos could remind the public that Betawi culture had been conserved in many ways, including through the Lenong Betawi theater troupe.
