T

he National Police continue to investigate individuals suspected of being involved in the publishing of Jokowi Undercover, a book containing defamatory claims about President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, in their attempts to hunt down its masterminds.

National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul told the press on Thursday that parties to face police questioning included individuals who had edited, printed, distributed and funded the publishing of the book.

“We are still searching for these people for further investigation. We may summon additional witnesses to gather more information,” he further said.

The police have arrested Jokowi Undercover author Bambang Tri Mulyono and named him a suspect over alleged defamatory claims he wrote in the book, which the police said lacked valid data and references. The police believe there were masterminds who had supported Bambang as they said he lacked the capability to compile information on his own.

In a separate interview, National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Rikwanto said the police’s Criminal Investigative Department (Bareskrim) had questioned former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief AM Hendropriyono in December after he filed a complaint against Bambang for mentioning him in the controversial book.

“People who are mentioned in the book [including Hendropriyono] have objected to the content because they said they had no knowledge of information provided in the book,” Rikwanto said. (ebf)
