rivately owned mobile operator PT Hutchison 3 Indonesia has launched a start-up incubator project, which aims to develop local start-ups and encourage more youths to become entrepreneurs.
Under the Kejar #Ambisiku project, four start-ups from three Indonesian cities were handpicked from 225 candidates to undergo a Boot Camp this week hosted by the operator. They will also take part in a two-year mentorship program.
The company is not looking to profit from the project as the objective is to reshape the chosen start-ups in terms of their business plans, said 3’s human resources director Wahyudin Adikusumah.
“Digital technology today is capable of making networking and marketing easier. However, this is not the case yet as it seems it is not enough to push youth to start their own businesses,” he said on Monday.
Wahyudin added that according to the government, entrepreneurs made up less than 2 percent of the population in 2016.
“Hopefully with a program like #Ambisiku, more youths will choose to become entrepreneurs and become more aware of how digital technologies can help them succeed. What we’re promoting are the benefits of ‘being your own boss’ and ‘working under your own terms’,” he said.
Up to 18 million millenials on social media and 11,000 people participated in the #Ambisiku Road show in Yogyakarta, Makassar and Bandung, which is set to be one of 3’s top programs this year. (bbn)
